• Description

  • The first New Urbanist town in the United States and the birthplace of the movement. Robert Davis inherited 80 acres on Florida’s Gulf coast (Walton County) and hired Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, whose master plan (designed 1980; construction began 1982) created a compact, pedestrian-focused town around a downtown commercial district and civic amenities. Its success inspired the 1993 founding of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
