• Description

  • A pioneering New Urbanist neighborhood on 132 acres on Mud Island, a sandbar in the Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee. Developed beginning in 1989 by Memphis developer Henry Turley (Henry Turley Company), with planner RTKL (Baltimore) and architects Looney Ricks Kiss (Memphis). Turley blocked a planned highway extension onto the sandbar and bought the foreclosed land, envisioning a dense, walkable community of row houses, shops, parks, and a marina.
